Setting up your email program

When you have bought your new domain names you need to set up your email program so that all the messages you send to people displays your new domain name. We explain how to do this. The process depends on whether you use Outlook Express or Netscape Communicator. (Refer to a user manual for other email programs, it will be fairly similar to the instructions below.) .

(Note that, although you can receive email messages via your domain name, free web based email services such as Yahoo, Excite and Hotmail do not allow you to send email as though they came from your new domain name. You may want to use an automatic signature which shows your new domain name email address at the bottom of every email you send. This is one of the prices of using free web based email services.)

Click on the following to learn how to set it up:

Outlook Express MS Outlook Netscape Communicator MS Internet Mail Pegasus Eudora

  5. In the User Information box, in the E-mail address box, enter the email address you want to use eg. where anything is any name you want to use (eg sales, info, support, etc) and yourchosenname.co.uk is your own domain name.

You can test you have set it up correctly by sending an email to yourself and looking at the details of the message when it is received back by you. (Note you may have to wait a short time for the message to be sent and forwarded back to you).

Alternatively you can create a new account with exactly the same settings as your original account (by looking at the properties of the original one first) and only change the Email address which the email is sent from.
